Musa Insistente

Word, voice, body and movement are equally central in this choreographic creation, which proposes dance as a way of escaping the system and the forces that make us falter.

“Escape is a muse that insists on whispering in our ear when we had already been convinced to wish for our own capture”, explains choreographer Leandro Souza. Hence the title of a performance created with minimalist simplicity and a sense of ritual, which lays claim to this insistent muse that leads us to invent or reinvent ways of living, doing, seeing and thinking, and invites us to escape and evade the system through dance. The artist intertwines body and word in a choreography in which his solitary body moves through the space reciting fragments of song lyrics and philosophical texts and referencing prominent figures of Western culture. He accompanies words with gestures and movements drawn from many different dances, in a break with spoken and bodily language that opens doors to reinvention.
