A plot / A scandal
An artist who challenges the most conventional visions of the body premieres on Catalan and Spanish stages a surprising and mysterious exploration of what is seen… and what is not.
Everyone knows what a scandal is, but perhaps you've never thought about everything that what we consider “scandalous” says about our dreams and desires, or about what the society we live in places beyond the limits. Immoral, belonging to no one, scandals are the natural territory of fantasy and pleasure.
Historical events and mythical narratives combine in a performance that explores the visible and the invisible, and is divided into several parts that speak of John Locke’s treatise on the “natural rights” of the white man to life, liberty, and property, as well as an abolitionist conspiracy — including Lewis’s own great-grandmother.

LIGIA LEWIS es una artista, coreógrafa y directora que desarrolla tanto propuestas escénicas como exposiciones o cine. Elementos físicos y emocionales de alta intensidad, una mezcla de comedia y tragedia, y el desafío a las visiones convencionales del cuerpo son rasgos destacados de su producción artística. La historia, la memoria y lo que no sabemos son algunos de los temas que aborda, en espacios siempre familiares pero enigmáticos.
Además de A Plot / A Scandal (2022), Lewis ha creado Still Not Still (2021) y Deader than dead (2020). Una retrospectiva de sus piezas escénicas, Complaint, A Lyric, se presentó en HAU Hebbel am Ufer de Berlín en 2023. La artista ha actuado, entre otros, en MOCA Los Ángeles, HAU Hebbel am Ufer Berlín, MCA Chicago, Tate Modern Londres y la Whitney Biennial. Con A Plot / A Scandal, ganó el premio alemán de teatro Der FAUST en 2023.
