Fasting Girls: Un teorema (posible) de mirada, conversatorio con Mayte Gómez Molina
En el contexto del proyecto de investigación escénico Fasting Girls, dialogaremos con la escritora, investigadora y artista de nuevos medios Mayte Gómez Molina, sobre el avatar, la memoria, el deseo y los espejos.
Una conversación en la que pensar juntas las imágenes como alimento, el hambre y las metamorfosis.

Fasting Girls
Fasting girls es una investigación audiovisual y escénica que explora la relación entre el ayuno y las imágenes a través de tres intuiciones: las imágenes sirven como alimento, el hambre genera imágenes y las imágenes nos devoran.
Partimos de una imagen: artistas del hambre o “fasting girls” victorianas, realizaban ayunos públicos en el interior de urnas de cristal que en algunas ocasiones, eran colocadas en los salones de restaurantes. Mientras los comensales disfrutaban de banquetes, ellas observaban y eran observadas en su no-comer. Hoy, fasting girls digitales se graban ayunando mientras miran vídeos de mukbang —festines digitales de comida— como si la pantalla fuera un nuevo vidrio que separa esos dos universos el exceso y la nada. Comer o mirar. Gravedad o gracia.
Atravesando célebres fasting girls como Simone Weil, Karen Carpenter o Howard Hughes y otras no tan célebres pero más cercanas, el proyecto se aproxima a esta forma de desaparición como ejercicio de resistencia a la sobreexposición, al imperativo de la visibilidad.
Tal vez la imagen no sirva como alimento real pero el proyecto Fasting girls propone esa posibilidad aunque sea de forma simbólica para repensar el ayuno voluntario, no tanto como un diagnóstico individual sino como un síntoma colectivo de la tendencia contemporánea a desaparecer en las imágenes. Se trata en fin de una invitación a mirar juntas unos cuerpos en metamorfosis y asumirlos como una reacción colectiva al exceso de gravedad, al exceso de presencia: un proceso conjunto de mutación común.

Como parte de la investigación del proyecto Fasting Girls, la coreógrafa, directora de escena y dramaturga Claudia Faci parte de la pregunta: "¿Desaparecer o hacerse (al fin) visible?" para realizar un trabajo de reflexión sobre la erosión de la mirada sobre el cuerpo y las imágenes, tanto de quien mira como de quienes son mirada(s).
Taller Estampa alimentará la IA para hacer visibles dismorfias, posibilidades e imposibilidades de observar los cuerpos que, a priori, quisieran desaparecer.
MARTA AZPARREN. Visual artist. Her work moves between experimental cinema, live arts and drawing. She holds a degree in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid and a master’s degree in Contemporary Film and Audiovisual Studies from Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. Resident fellow at the Spanish Academy in Rome 2022 (experimental film). Her work proposes a meta-reflection on artistic activity, focusing on the connections between creator, spectator, work, and the internal machinery of mediation, production and exhibition. Her gaze is also directed towards the non-visual within the visual, towards what tends to disappear. Her audiovisual proposals lean towards expanded cinema, live editing, spoken cinema or video installation. Her pieces have been shown at Cineteca Matadero, CA2M Museum, Festival Domingo (La Casa Encendida), Xcèntric CCCB, La Capella, Círculo de Bellas Artes, Spanish Academy in Rome, Arts Santa Monica, Festival de Otoño, Triennale di Milano, Werkleitz-Centre for Media Art, Centro Cultural Español in Mexico, Art Beijing and festivals such as LOOP, Festival de Cine de Madrid, New Media Film (LA); DFA’s Dance on Camera (NY), Videoformes KasselDokfest, Strangloscope, CineToro, Les Instants Vidéo, Zebra Poetry Film, among others. CLAUDIA FACI is an actress, playwright, choreographer, dancer, teacher and independent author. As a performer, she has participated in all kinds of dance and theatre productions, as well as in some film and television works. Between 2006 and 2020 her work focused on artistic creation, offering a unique perspective on the performing arts through work nourished by her experience in dance, theatre, performance and literature. Her proposals act directly on the relationships that sustain the structure of theatre, blurring the boundaries between subject and object, between the viewer and the viewed, and invite reflection on authorship as it is defined by market laws.
TALLER ESTAMPA is a collective of programmers, filmmakers and researchers working across the fields of audiovisual creation and digital environments. Their practice is grounded in a critical and archaeological approach to audiovisual technologies, investigating the tools and ideologies of artificial intelligence and the resources of experimental animation.
MAYTE GOMEZ MOLINA. Writer, researcher and new media artist who uses writing as the central axis of a plural practice. She works with poetry and fiction in a traditional sense—creating book objects—but also explores the expansion of literature into digital formats through essays and poems in digital film, 3D and virtual reality. She is currently part of the MAKE/SENSE PhD Programme at the Academy of Art and Design in Basel, where she also teaches at the Institute of Art Gender Nature.
