Darío Bardam is a Canarian dancer working simultaneously in Tenerife, Skopje, Sofia, and Stockholm. His artistic work revolves around dance as an autonomous form of knowledge and disidentification practices as mediation mechanisms.

He trained at Teatro Victoria (Tenerife), Institut del Teatre (Barcelona), DOCH School of Dance and Circus (Stockholm), and JLU University of Giessen (Germany). Darío has worked as a dancer, co-creator, and collaborator with Deborah Hay, Cristina Caprioli, Ofelia Jarl-Ortega, Aleksandar Georgiev, Philip Berlin, and Poliana Lima, among others.

He is the co-director of LAV (Live Arts and Citizenship Laboratory), co-founder of the ICC (Imaginative Choreographic Center) project and the STEAMROOM artistic team, and a member of the movement artists’ association PiedeBase(Canary Islands), the Lokomotiva organization (Macedonia), and the NOMAD Dance Academy network (Balkans).

PHANTOM

PHANTOM is the title of an investigation by Darío Barreto Damas that focuses on the relationship between the figure of the ghost and politics of disidentification, following the lines of work from the projects seguir moviendo and ES UN NO PARAR, in which the catalysts of a dance that transcends the body performing it are studied (rhythm, repetition, feedback, archive, gaze, voice, among others).

Playing with different beats and melodies of music along with Juana La Cubana DJ, and the overlapping of shadows and lights with Grace Morales, the work is positioned at the intersection of dance, music, and visual experience, constructing a shared ghost body that fades away, creating space for everything to dance. At the core of the entire investigation, the pleasure of dancing plays a fundamental role.

Symphonia in two movements

"El show comienza, suda purpurina y rica fantasía. Color húmedo y glorioso y hadas mágicas. La galaxia húmeda. Una fucsia bienvenida a todos y todas"

En "Symphonia"  cuestiono y trabajo alrededor de la creación de diversas capas o territorios donde imágenes, conceptos, metáforas, estéticas, ideas, emociones, ironías (…), tienen la posibilidad de aparecer, desaparecer, interrelacionarse, ignorarse, explotar, surgir, saltar, navegar, distorsionarse, derramarse, gotear, jugar, ligar, (…), sin el establecimiento de definiciones, conclusiones o “verdades” específicas. 

"Symphonia" propone un mundo de fantasía, una ilusión, un intento de éxito y maravilla. La exposición de un ego. Un momento en el que circulamos juntos, nos derretimos y volvemos a brillar. La repetición junto con la música y las propiedades de la escena ofrecen “multilayered” y “poliamorosos" vínculos entre el material generado y la amplitud y extensión de su contenido.
